A classy Franck Ribéry sent out the ultimate tribute message to former Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben.

The Dutchman, 35, left the German champions after his contract expired in June and announced his retirement from football on Thursday.

And for Ribéry, who also left the Bavarians at the end of last season, took to Twitter to send out an emotional tweet to Robben.

The 36-year-old French winger wrote: "THANK YOU • DANKE • MERCI • DANKJEWEL @ArjenRobben! Best @FCBayern counterpart I could imagine, #Robbery will never be forgotten! What a career my friend, now enjoy your time off the pitch."

The duo became one of the most legendary wing pairings in football during their time at Bayern Munich.

Robben spent a decade in Germany and made over 200 appearances for Bayern Munich.

But the former Netherlands international enjoyed a glittering career with the club as he lifted eight Bundesliga titles, five German Cups and a Champions League.

Much like Robben, Ribéry enjoyed a successful career at Bayern Munich, made over 250 appearances for the club and won multiple trophies, including the Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions League.

And the former France international's excellent form propelled him to third place in the race for the 2013 Ballon d'Or award.

The ex-Bayern Munich superstar is not ready to follow in the same footsteps as Robben by hanging his boots up.

Free agent Ribéry recently said that he has received several offers from European clubs.

"I feel really good. I have not yet made a decision about my future, I will do it within two weeks," he told German newspaper Bild.

"I received many good offers from Europe. I have to think about my family and my sons."

The former Marseille and Metz player also spoke about his former employer's need to reinforce their attacking options this summer.

And Ribéry believes Manchester City star Leroy Sané, who has been linked with Bayern Munich in recent months, would be the right fit for the Bavarians.

"Obviously you still want to get some players. There were many departures that the club has to compensate for," he told Bild.

"Sané would be a player who brings Bayern forward.

"He has top skills, can play on the right and left sides. I'm curious if he will really decide for Munich, fancy the Bundesliga."

Which club should try to sign Ribéry in the summer?
