The Santiago Bernabeu is regarded as one of the most iconic football grounds and it looks like it could be going up another gear.

Plans were actually revealed many moons ago all the way back in 2014 but things didn't quite get off the ground.

However, Spanish outlet MARCA say Los Blancos are very close to get the project it signed, sealed and delivered - with Real close to receiving the final bit of approval from key shareholders.

Real are not expected to increase the capacity of the 70-year old stadium, and the focus is clearly on updating the dated design and giving it a new lease of life.

A removable roof, a metallic silver skin that will enable to the stadium to well and truly shine in the scorching sun, and private boxes are some of the high-profile adjustments in place.

But the most impressive feature will be the 360-degree video screen, which will provide a real glimpse into the future of stadia.

The 13-time European champions are also planning on getting rid of the car park outside the ground in order to design an area where fans can socialise prior to game, while there will also be new shopping facilities around the complex.

It's a big and expensive project that looks likely to set the club back €400 million (£355 million). Yet, with cross-city rivals Atletico recently moving into their swanky new stadium, it feels like an entirely necessary investment.
