If Jose Mourinho splashes the cash on Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale this summer, then the title race will be over before it even begins, according to Jamie Redknapp.

Redknapp is adamant that Bale could lead Manchester United to Premier League glory, but a clause in his contract could prevent him from joining Old Trafford in the future - that's if Tottenham make a bid for the 28-year-old.

Bale's record breaking move to Real Madrid from White Hart Lane in 2013 was, at the time, the biggest transfer in history and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy made sure that one clause was inserted in his contract.

The Mirror report that Levy made sure that the club have first option on former player Gareth Bale.

That means if Manchester United make a bid for the Welsh winger, then Spurs can match the offer within 72 hours.

That being said, Spurs are currently throwing money at their new stadium, so a deal is highly unlikely, but a deal next season could happen if the 28-year-old decides to remain at the Bernabeu.

Bale has been linked with a move to Manchester United for some time, but Jose Mourinho's latest quotes about the Real Madrid man has raised eyebrows among fans.

Ahead of the UEFA Super Cup final against Los Blancos, Jose Mourinho praised the former Tottenham and Southampton winger when speaking to reporters in the Macedonian capital of Skopje.

The 'Special One' said via BBC Sport that he will 'fight with other coaches' and will wait for Bale 'at the departure gate' if he isn't in Zidane's plans:

"He is in the plans of the coach and the club, and it is in his own plans and ambitions to stay there Then I won't even think about it.

"If he is not in the club's plans and it is true that a player like Bale is at the departure gate, I will try to be there waiting for him at the other side."
