Paul Scholes Turns Out For Royton Town In The 11th Tier Of English Football

It's weird seeing him in different colours to Manchester United...

Paul Scholes has been keeping himself busy as a pundit and a co-owner of Salford City in his retirement but he made a surprise return to football today.

The Manchester United legend pulled on the maroon strip of Royton Town for their game against Stockport Georgians in the 11th tier of English football.

Even though he's now 43, the opposition must have got the shock of a lifetime when the realised they were playing against one of the most technically gifted England players of all-time, and someone who has won pretty much all there is to win at club level with United.

But there Scholesy was, unassuming as ever, wearing No.8, marking the post on corners and showing us he's still not learnt how to tackle properly.

Scholes turning out for the Oldham outfit came about because his son Aaron, (who once scored an illegal goal through the side-netting against my school team many years back) plays for the team.

With the team short on numbers, the former England international stepped up to the mark for the 1-0 defeat. Goalkeeper Liam Lovell is a big Manchester City fan but couldn't speak any more highly of Scholes, also confirming he was "spraying the ball everywhere from midfield" as per.

"Honestly it was surreal, as it was unexpected due to a lack of players available," he told SPORTbible.

"Top bloke with an amazing attitude, and just got on with it.He comes to every game to watch his son and gets along with the manager well."
