Maxwell: The Most Decorated Club Player Ever

Wow.

When you think of the most successful club footballers in history, you immediately think of the likes of modern day silverware hoarders such as Xavi, Iniesta, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The likes of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes will doubtlessly come to mind as well.

However, the footballer who has achieved the most success at club level is, while relatively well known, nowhere near the same stratosphere as the aforementioned legends of the game.

But nontheless, Brazilian full-back Maxwell this past weekend became club football's most successful player when he lifted the French League Cup with his Paris Saint-Germain teammates.

The title is the former Ajax man's 36th major honour at club level, two more than former PSG teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Maxwell won two Dutch titles and a pair of KNVB Cups during his five years with Ajax before lifting three consecutive Serie A titles with Internazionale, where he also won two Italian Super Cups.

Barcelona was next for the 35-year-old, where two La Liga titles and a Champions League were claimed, among numerous other titles, including a Club World Cup.

Since 2011, the Brazil international has amassed 14 trophies with PSG, including four consecutive Ligue 1 titles, a couple of French Cups and four French League Cups, the most recent of which came at the weekend at the expense of title rivals Monaco.

Will the 35-year-old add any more silverware to his overflowing collection before he calls time on his glittering career?
