Madagascar Have Qualified For The African Cup Of Nations For The 1st Time

It's time to smile and wave boys because Madagascar are heading to Cameroon next summer for their first ever confederation tournament.

Madagascar have made history by qualifying for the African Cup of Nations for the first time in their history after beating Equatorial Guinea in their group to get to Cameroon next summer.

I've got to apologise straight off the bat to Madagascar because all we're going to be able to reference from the African country is that fact there's some hilarious animated films about the place. Don't be too angry lads, just smile and wave.

The Barea have never before qualified for Africa's continental football competition but they'll be heading to Cameroon next summer after a 1-0 win against Equatorial Guinea left them on 10 points, and top of their group, with two games still to play.

26 year old midfielder Njiva Rakotoharimalala will go down in the countries sporting history as the man who grabbed the winning goal to send them to Cameroon.

There qualification process was rocked by a tragedy in the national stadium Mahamasina Stadium where a stampede of fans left at least one supporter dead and another 40 injured just before the game against Senegal.

Senegal could join Madagascar in the finals later today if they manage to beat Sudan and if they do go through then both sides would have all the pressure off ahead of the return fixture next month.

In case you're looking for a team to support for the tournament next year the newly qualified side have Baggio Romario Rakotoarisoa in their ranks, and I can find no better reason to want a side to go far.
