Since being certified as a footballing nation by UEFA and FIFA, Gibraltar really haven't had a good time.

But today the smallest nation recognised by UEFA experienced a major change of fortune when they recorded a memorable 1-0 victory over Latvia.

It was not only Gibraltar's second ever win as a UEFA nation, it was their first as a FIFA Nation, their first success on home soil - and their first win for FOUR years.

A late free-kick from Notts County Liam Walker in the 88th minute sees them climb off the bottom FIFA ranking (206) and ended a four-year wait for a win - their last triumph coming against Malta in 2014.

Since that unforgettable win, the 30,000 strong nation have lost 23 games and conceded 117 goals. Yet they did the business this afternoon, producing a truly incredible sporting upset against a nation with 1.9 million people.

Here's the pick of the reaction on social media:

A proud, proud moment. Congratulations to all those involved!
