It didn't count for anything in the end but Dimitri Payet scored a sensational free-kick for Marseille last night.

With his side 2-0 down in the Europa League group game with Lazio at the Stade Velodrome, the skipper grabbed an 86th minute consolation in the form of a beautiful curling set-piece from distance.

The Frenchman has always been a dead-ball expert and he demonstrated it again, displaying superb technique and perfect placement to beat Thomas Strakosha.

Unfortunately for last season's finalists, they couldn't find the equaliser and later conceded a third, Adam Marusic popping up in stoppage time for the visitors.

In all competitions, Payet has had a hand 12 goals in 13 appearances this season. The 31-year old, with all the technical ability he has in his locker, should probably have made more of his career but he will have quite the goals compilation.

Last month, he scored one of his most jaw-dropping ogals in the 4-0 win over Guingamp.

In the 72nd minute he ball dropped to him outside the box and though most players would have trapped the ball and taken a touch, Dimitri Payet isn't like most players. He produced the most breathtaking side-foot volley that flew right into the top bins.

The former Lille man really had no right to pull it off but he really is the king of nonchalance and boy did he produce wonders. Unbelievable tekkers, pure unadulterated filth.
