David Beckham has been honoured with a statue at former club LA Galaxy, becoming the first MLS player to achieve the feat.

The former England skipper made 98 appearances for the club after moving across the pond 12 years ago and won two MLS cups in five seasons.

But above that, he was the first real high-profile name to make the move to the MLS and really put the league on the map - opening up the door for a slew of big players to come and further bring about the growth of the football/soccer in the states.

Galaxy unveiled the statue before their MLS season opener against Chicago Fire at Dignity Health Sports Park, where Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a late winner to get Guillermo Barros Schelotto's side off the mark.

Beckham's wife Victoria was present along with his parents, while former Galaxy teammate Robbie Keane, NBA legend Kobe Bryant and LA's Snoop Dogg were all involved in the ceremony.

And the Manchester United legend expressed his pride at seeing his legacy being marked in LA through this bust.

He said: "I am truly proud you have created something to - a - keep me young and - b - give my family and friends and especially my kids, who can come here one day very soon and see something of their father and see what we created and what I achieved."

While there have been some shouts that the Becks bust has a bit of Gordon Ramsay about it, Beckham definitely has one of the better statues given to footballers.

Radamel Falcao, Cristiano Ronaldo, Diego Maradona, Michael Essien, Mo Salah and Asamoah Gyan are part of the infamous 'shite statue club.
