BREAKING: Newcastle United Secure Promotion To The Premier League

Guess who's back, back again...

Just 348 days after suffering the heartache of relegation, Newcastle United have secured Premier League status once again.

In front of another sell-out crowd of 52,000 at St James' Park, goals from Ayoze Perez (x2), Christian Atsu, and Matt Ritchie secured a priceless win against Preston North End - as Rafael Benitez's side join Brighton & Hove Albion in the English top flight.

Despite fears that Benitez may have left following relegation last season, managing director Lee Charnley managed to persuade him to stay and the club have done what was expected.

That all-important place in the Premier League.

Newcastle took the lead in the 7th minute when Ayoze Perez netted after being virtually unmarked at the back post.

Preston equalised just seven minutes later when Jordan Hugill met a Tom Barkhuizen cross, but Christian Atsu soon put Benitez's side back ahead just before the half-time whistle.

Then second half goals from Perez and Matt Ritchie sealed the win.

Newcastle haven't exactly enjoyed a perfect season in the Championship - which includes five home defeats - but promotion has finally been sealed after a long campaign.

How the club will line up next season is anyone's guess, but arguably their stand out performers this season include Dwight Gayle, Jonjo Shelvey and Matt Ritchie.

Congratulations to Newcastle United.

You are back at the top - where you belong.
