Andy Robertson's rise has been nothing short of meteoric.

Five years after playing for Queen's Park and losing 2-0 to Annan in the lower echelons of Scottish football, he was part of the Liverpool side that beat Manchester City 5-1 to progress to the Champions League semi-finals.

And now he's playing in the Champions League final against the European champions, Real Madrid.

One of the bargains of the season after arriving for a mere £8 million from Hull City, he's been a revelation and was excellent over both legs against City.

Back in 2013, a very young Robertson played in front of just 242 spectators in the Scottish third division and he marked the anniversary last night by putting in another exceptional performance at left-back.

After the game, he took to Twitter to joke it was a "bit better result".

The Scotland international got a move to Dundee United after excelling for the Glasgow club and was later snapped up by Hull City for just short of £3 million a year later.

He spent three years at the KCOM Stadium, including two in the Premier League - and clearly caught the eye of Liverpool.

It did take him a fair bit of time to fit into the side but he's already endeared himself to the Liverpool faithfuls thanks to his energetic and tireless displays.

Robertson's rise to prominence has been astonishing and one tweet from the man himself in 2012 perfectly demonstrates it.

The tweet, sent from an 18-year old Robertson back in August 2012, has been doing the rounds after the Scotland international played a key role in Liverpool reaching an eighth European Cup final.

Six years ago, playing for Queen's Park in the Scottish Third Division, where the money wasn't great, he tweeted about needing to get another job because he had no money.

But Robertson serves as a reminder that hard work pays off.

After spending his time playing in front of 200 spectators in Scottish football, he got a move and was later snapped up by Hull City for just short of £3 million a year later.

What a journey it has been.
