Adel Taarabt Makes His Debut For Benfica Four Years After Signing With The Club

Benfica boss Bruno Lage brought former QPR star Adel Taarabt on for his club debut against Tondela. Better late than never, right?

Adel Taarabt has finally made his first appearance for Benfica, which comes four years after he first signed with the club.

The 29-year-old Moroccan midfielder penned a five-year contract with the Primeira Liga side in 2015, following his contract termination with Queens Park Rangers.

However, life hasn't been easy for Taarabt at Benfica and he ended up going out on loan to Genoa for the 2017-18 season.

The former QPR star has played for Benfica B this season, but he had not made a senior appearance for the side until Saturday's Primeira Liga clash with Tondela.

With the scoreline 0-0 in the second half, Benfica manager Bruno Lage handed Taarabt his debut for the club when he subbed him on for Pizzi.

While it would have been a dream debut for the Morocco international had he scored the winner, Taarabt ended the match on the winning side when Haris Seferović scored against Tondela.

It could be a new chapter in the life of Taarabt at Benfica, especially as Lage admitted that he was impressed with what he had seen from the player recently.

"He started the season at the B team. I did not know him, I had heard stories about his past, but what I saw was a player who always trained well, with the intensity I like," he said.

"I must hand him opportunities, we will see if we can create that opportunity and if he grabs it once and for all to make a career according to his potential."
