Having leapfrogged Arsenal last season, finishing above their North London rivals for the first time in the Premier League era, Tottenham have once again got reason to be cheerful after they moved above the Gunners in the list of the English top flight's biggest shirt sponsorship deals.

Spurs are currently sponsored by Chinese insurance company AIA and the firm from the Far East have significantly upped their level of investment in a new deal that runs through until 2022.

AIA were originally paying Spurs £16 million-per-year, but, as reported by Sporting Intelligence, have now more than doubled that investment, earning last season's Premier League runners up £35 million every year, making them the joint third highest earners in terms of shirt sponsorship in the top flight.

Manchester City's current deal with Etihad is also worth £35 million-per-year, with Chelsea sitting in second place thanks to their yearly £40 million payment from Japanese tyre firm Yokohama.

At the summit sit Manchester United, who receive £47 million every 12 months from American car manufacturing giant Chevrolet.

Spurs' newfound sponsorship wealth has seen them leapfrog both Arsenal and Liverpool, who earn £30 million-per-year each from Fly Emirates and Standard Chartered, respectively.

Overall, Premier League shirt sponsorships have soared ahead of the coming season, now collectively worth £281.8 million, an increase of £55 million on last season. When Sporting Intelligence originally ran the combined figures in 2010/11, the overall total amounted to £100.45 million, meaning sponsorships have almost trebled in seven years.

In addition to the extra £19 million in sponsorship money, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino also has the £50 million generated from the sale of Kyle Walker to Manchester City at his disposal.

Spurs fans will be hoping their Argentine manager spends it wisely and spends it soon with a huge season in the Premier League and Champions League on the horizon, in which the North London club will play all their home games at Wembley, with White Hart Lane currently undergoing rebuilding work.
