Spurs Become The First Premier League Club To Make No Transfers In A Summer Window

A window to forget for Spurs...

Tottenham Hotspur have made some unwanted summer transfer window history after they became the first Premier League side to not make any signings in a summer transfer window since it first became a thing in 2003.

Mauricio Pochettino pushed to sign Aston Villa's Jack Grealish but that deal became dead and led to the North Londoners finishing the reduced window with a grand total of zero signings.

Daniel Levy is viewed as a stern negotiator and not one to dig deep in his pockets for reinforcements but failing to strengthen at all when you are competing for a Champions League spot is pretty embarrassing. They couldn't even sign a player from the Championship.

Granted, they did well to keep defender Toby Alderweireld at the club after interest from Manchester United but if you're a Spurs fan, you must be struggling to find any sort of optimism going into the new campaign.

Despite no new arrivals for the first season at their brand new stadium, Pochettino feels they can still go on to do great things this term.

"Of course it's difficult to understand for people in football that Tottenham didn't sign or sell players, but sometimes in football you need to behave differently," he said in his press conference earlier today, as per The Mirror.

"If we are happy with our squad and cannot improve our squad, sometimes it's better to keep our squad together. We believe a lot in our players and there's no point now to say, why not repeat a similar season like last year or the season before, and with more experience."
