Spain are hoping a French-born defender earns Spanish citizenship so he can turn out for 'La Roja'.
Remember Real Madrid legend, Fernando Hierro? The Spanish centre-half who won the lot including the prestigious Champions League an impressive three times.
Well, he's plotting the switch of allegiances.
Hierro, Spain's FA Sporting Director, is leading the attempt. And he's confident Lucas Hernandez will eventually represent Spain on a senior level.

The 22-year-old defender has rose to prominence with Atletico Madrid after graduating from the clubs youth academy in 2014.
He's even in the process of finalising and earning Spanish citizenship, according to reports via Get French Football News.
Hernandez has since become an integral part of Atletico's defensive set up, and his performances on the club scene haven't gone unnoticed.

Following his outings in Spain's La Liga, national head coach Julen Lopetegui is eager to call him up.
Hernandez, though, has represented France at youth level from the under-16's to the under-21's.

But he's yet to play for the full France team, thus making him eligible to play for Spain.
If 'Les Bleus' boss Didier Deschamps wants Hernandez, he needs to act quick.
