Sevilla Caretaker Manager Reveals He Is Suffering From Chronic Leukaemia, Refuses To Quit The Job

Sevilla caretaker manager Joaquín Caparrós has shared sad news after revealing that he is suffering from chronic leukaemia.

According to ESPN's David Cartlidge, the 63-year-old Spaniard made the announcement ahead of Sevilla's match against Real Valladolid.

However, the Sevilla boss has no intention of walking away from the club or his duties as manager.

Cartlidge has added that Caparrós said he was not receiving 'any form of treatment' for his illness, saying that it was 'under control.'

"You know that my blood is boiling red, there has been a rush between white and red blood, I have chronic leukaemia," Caparrós explained at his press conference (via El Español).

"I was able to live a normal life, I want to enjoy my profession, I have no treatment, I appreciate the club's opportunity.

"More plugged than ever, I'm not going to talk about this topic, I just want people to stay calm."

Caparrós initially managed Sevilla from 2000 to 2005, but he would return to the club for his second stint in 2018 as caretaker manager after Vincenzo Montella was sacked.

In fact, Caparrós showed how much love he had for the club at the time when he said that he was willing to manage the team for free after temporarily taking over the helm from Montella.

"To put a contract for less than a month, when all the games that we have left are in Seville and we don't even have to travel, I just didn't think it was necessary to be paid," he told OndaCero in 2018.

He would later be appointed as the club's director of football after Pablo Machín was named the permanent manager.

However, Machín was sacked last month after Slavia Praha knocked Los Hispalenses out of the Europa League, with Caparrós once again taking on his duties of caretaker manager until the end of the season.

Sevilla picked up a 2-0 victory over Valladolid at the Estadio José Zorrilla on Saturday, with Roque Mesa opening the scoring late in the second half and Munir El Haddadi doubling their lead in injury time.

Caparrós' men are in fifth place in La Liga and are one point behind fourth-placed Getafe, who picked up a 1-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Sunday at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.

Will Sevilla finish in the top four this season?
