Sergio Aguero is desperate to win this year's Copa America so that Lionel Messi can finally win a trophy on the international stage.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has 65 international goals to his name but discounting the U20 World Cup and Olympic medal he has to his name, at senior level he has never lifted any silverware.
Messi has lost finals on four occasions: the 2014 World Cup and the 2007, 2015 and 2016 Copa America tournaments - and Aguero wants nothing more than for his friend and roommate to lift gold.
"I'm more anxious to be a champion for Messi than for me," Aguero told Fox Sports Argentina.
"Hopefully one day it happens. It's his dream and everyone's dream. I put myself in his place and I want to try to do my best for him to lift the Copa America.
"It's been a long time that he comes here and he suffers. I also suffer. We know what he can bring and the rest have to be mentally prepared not to fail."
Messi embarked on a second extended break from international football following on from another disappointing World Cup campaign in the summer but returned to Lionel Scaloni's squad as captain in the 3-1 defeat to Venezuela.
Argentina take on Nicaragua in their final friendly before the tournament in Brazil but Messi refuses to put La Abicaleste forward as one of the favourites.
The Barca skipper has played down Argentina's chances of adding to their 14 Copa America victories.
Per Argentine outlet TyC Sport (as quoted in ESPN FC), Messi explained, "We are not candidates like other times. We will go with the same dreams and excitement as always, but the reality is that Argentina is going through a process of change.
