Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi will both want to secure a record sixth Ballon d'Or win next week.
The Juventus star and Barcelona's talisman have held a decade-long dominance over the award, but there are reports suggesting that both players could miss out on winning this year's Ballon d'Or.
According to Sky Italia (via the Daily Express), the three-man shortlist and the positions that each player will finish in have been leaked.
The 33-year-old Portuguese forward, who recently auctioned one of his Ballon d'Ors off for charity, is set to finish second.
Real Madrid star Luka Modrić will be named the 2018 winner, while Atlético Madrid's Antoine Griezmann will come third on the podium.
Yes, that means Messi will miss out on a top-three finish for the first time since 2006.
It might come as a disappointment for Atlético boss Diego Simeone if his World Cup-winning Frenchman finishes third, especially after he claimed that the 27-year-old forward should win the Ballon d'Or.
"We can safely say that Cristiano [Ronaldo] and Lionel Messi are the best footballers in the world," he said.
"But not in this 2018.
"At this lap, Antoine was superior to everyone, nobody did what he did for his teams.
"When a footballer makes sure that the whole team can work based on his brain, it has an incalculable value."
