Former Manchester City and Real Madrid forward Robinho has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of sexual assault.

The Brazilian sexually assaulted a 22-year-old Albanian woman in a Milan disco in 2013, with five other men also being found guilty as part of the same case.

Football Italia are reporting that Robinho and the other men gang-raped the woman. The Brazilian pleaded guilty and was handed a nine year sentence by Italian authorities.

However, the Italian Justice System does allow for 'several levels of appeal' which means the verdict cannot be enforced until the appeals process is completed.

Robinho has most recently been playing his football for Atletico Mineiro in Brazil, having taken in spells with Real Madrid, Manchester City and AC Milan in Europe.

We'll have more on this story as it continues to develop.
