News has come in from in Spain today that Liverpool tabled a massive bid for Marco Asensio that was rejected by Real Madrid.

Spanish radio station Cadena COPE are the source of the bid, with AS also following up on the story.

The Reds are said to have bid 50 million euros (£42 million) for the 21-year old and Real Madrid instantly quashed their advances by turning the bid.

Asensio has become a key part of Zinedine Zidane's side this season, making 30 appearances in all competitions and scoring nine goals.

His latest strike was to clinch a 4-2 extra time Champions League quarter final win over Bayern Munich on Tuesday, where he nipped past a couple of Bayern challenges and slotted home with his right foot.

He's really stepped up to the plate in the absence of Gareth Bale, and can easily by referred to as one of the top talents in world football today.

Zidane rates him highly, and there is no need for Madrid to sell a player who could well be the future of their side.

Los Blancos snapped him up for a bargain price of 3.5 million euros in 2014 and after spending the duration of the 2015/16 campaign on loan at Espanyol, he's now very much a valued member of the Real squad.
