Mauro Icardi could be one of Zinedine Zidane's major summer signings at Real Madrid after reports suggest that the Spanish club are interested in bringing him to the Santiago Bernabéu.

The 26-year-old Inter Milan striker's future has been shrouded in uncertainty after he was stripped of the club captaincy and contract talks hitting a standstill.

With Zidane returning to Los Blancos this month for his second stint in charge, the Argentina international has emerged as one of their top targets.

According to beIN Sports' Tancredi Palmeri, the club have made contact with Icardi's agent and wife, Wanda Nara, over a potential move.

Zizou is expected to make sweeping changes to the existing Madrid squad after their disappointing season, with Chelsea's N'Golo Kanté being one of the names linked with the club.

Of course, another Blues star that has been linked with the club for some time has been Eden Hazard, with the reigning Champions League holders ready to rekindle their interest in him this summer.

Icardi has been linked with several clubs in recent months, including Juventus and Napoli. He might have a contract with I Nerazzurri that runs until 2021, but it does include a €110m release clause that becomes active from 1st July to 15th July.

Last year, former Los Blancos and England boss Fabio Capello told Rai Radio 1 that Icardi should be one of the club's top targets, especially to fill the void that Cristiano Ronaldo has left behind.

"I am a fan of Icardi, I like him," he said.

"Real Madrid should make him their priority to be signed, because he is the most similar player to Cristiano Ronaldo and is deadly in the penalty box.

"He is the player Ronaldo has been in recent years and Icardi is someone who has that movement and feel for the goal."

Should Icardi leave Inter Milan for Madrid?
