Football fans were quick to jump on Virgil van Dijk's post-match comments following Liverpool's goalless draw against Everton on Sunday.

The commanding Dutch defender was imperious at the back, keeping another Premier League clean sheet but Liverpool's forwards failed to hit the back of the net as they were held 0-0 at Goodison Park.

And speaking after the game, van Dijk mocked Everton for celebrating a point.

"I think based on the chances we deserved three points," he told Sky Sports.

"It says a lot that they are celebrating a 0-0," he added.

"We had chances but we didn't finish them off.

"I like to play in these games but we came here for three points and we didn't get them. It's time now to recover for the next game.

"Everyone wants to be top of the league. But the situation is how it is. We can't change that at the moment - all we can do is win games. The focus is on the next one."

His comments sent social media into overdrive. People were reminding van Dijk the time Liverpool once celebrated a 2-2 draw versus West Brom.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are now trailing league leader Manchester City by one point with just nine games left of the season.
