It has been a frustrating season thus far for Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil. The German international has struggled for minutes under the new management of Unai Emery, missing several games through injury.

As a result of his absence, the former Real Madrid player, who has fallen out of favour with Emery, has been linked with a move away from The Emirates in recent weeks.

Ozil has been linked with a loan move away from the Gunners for some time now.

But now Arsenal are seriously investigating the possibility of a swap deal involving the playmaker and Real Madrid's Spanish midfielder Isco, according to The Independent.

That's right. Los Blancos themselves are planning a massive overhaul in the coming transfer windows, with Isco being heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, as Manchester City continue to be rumoured with a potential deal.

And a move for their former player could be of interest.

On Wednesday he was fit and available for the Carabao Cup loss to Spurs but he wasn't even in the matchday squad.

It hasn't been an easy ride for the German midfielder since joining Arsenal for £42.4 million in 2013, but Ozil has continued to prove doubters wrong during his time in North London, just like he's done throughout his journey in football.

But will he come back again and prove his quality under Unai Emery.
