Remembering When Kieran Trippier Scored 'That' Free-Kick vs Croatia At 7:05pm On July 11th

Many of our lives peaked when Kieran Tripper smashed in 'that' 25-yard free-kick against Croatia, so let's go back and remember what it really felt like to watch the Three Lions flourish in Russia.

England had reached their first World Cup semi-final in 28 years and plenty were adamant that Gareth Southgate and his young Three Lions could bring it home.

July 11th was a warm, clear day here in the UK and millions sat in the pub - pint in hand - waiting in anticipation for Harry Kane and the lads to create history.

Thing is, it looked so promising in the opening minutes. Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier switched from provider to producer - curling in an inch-perfect free-kick after Dele Alli had been fouled.

Just check out the reaction for Trippier's goal from 30,000 people in Hyde Park:

The nation erupted into euphoria, fitting of a last gasp winner in the World Cup final.

But this day would eventually turn into misery - well, that's if you supported England.

Southgate's World Cup dreams came crashing down when Mario Mandzukic - the man for the big occasion - bagged a goal in the 109th minute.

Despite many broken hearts, it made our mornings to see so much support from the media.

At the end of the day, making it to the WC semi-finals proved how far England had come as a team.

The last time we placed this high was in 1990, meaning some fans have never seen us in a semi-final in their life.

Front and back pages calling our players "Heroes" and "National Treasures" was a fitting reminder of progress made.

Andy Walker posts that "these front & back pages confirms the significant progress this @England squad has made over the last 7 weeks".

This wasn't always the opinion of the media though, for previous losses, our players have been slated by the papers and made to feel guilty, changing the opinion of the public too.

It really was an unforgettable summer.
