It was a night to forget for Loris Karius and those who are closest to him.

Liverpool suffered defeat to Real Madrid on Saturday night after two unfortunate blunders from the German goalkeeper played a huge part in the final.

It just wasn't the goalkeeper's night and after the final whistle, he sobbed to the travelling support and asked for forgiveness.

With tears in his eyes, Karius raised his hand and apologised for his errors.

It was a heartbreaking image for us watching at home, but it must have been even more devastating for his family, who were watching from the stands.

Simon Hughes from The Independent has since described the scene from the stands, revealing that Karius' mum had to hold his sobbing girlfriend while the Champions League final was being played out.

The report goes on to describe how Jurgen Klopp's wife, Ulla Sandrock, moved a few rows and try to offer some reassurance.

In one of the most bizarre moments in Champions League final history, Karius gifted Karim Benzema with an easy tap in after throwing it directly at his body.

Then the 24-year-old fumbled Gareth Bale's long range effort to end Liverpool's faint chances.

He may have made vital mistakes but some Liverpool fans applauded their goalkeeper - a warming gesture in an otherwise disappointing night.

Here's some of the heartbreaking pictures of him apologising to the fans.

Do you think Liverpool should replace Karius in the summer or should Jurgen Klopp give the German goalkeeper give him another chance?
