The latest England squad was released this afternoon, with Gareth Southgate opting to include a raft of new faces - but plenty of Three Lions fans are clueless as to why Newcastle's Jamaal Lascelles hasn't been called-up.

With the World Cup in Russia looming on the horizon this summer, Southgate is casting his net far and wide for potential first-team players.

The likes of Burnley duo Nick Pope and James Tarkowski joined Swansea's Alfie Mawson in the squad for the friendlies against Holland and Italy.

But Magpies skipper Lascelles has been overlooked, despite a 12 months which has seen him captain Rafa Benitez's side to Championship promotion, as well as cementing his status as a Premier League-quality defender.

The 24-year-old now seems extremely unlikely to be given the nod by Southgate before the World Cup, and there's plenty of people who seem to think it's a dreadful oversight

Do you think Lascelles deserved to be called up?
