He wasn't happy...

Anthony Martial's face on the Manchester United bench said everything about his reaction to Paul Pogba being substituted for Marouane Fellaini late on in the opening 2-1 win over Leicester City last night.

The Frenchman, who's future has been cast into major doubt of late, was named amongst for the game at Old Trafford, but was not one of the three subs to enter the fray; Romelu Lukaku replaced Marcus Rashford up top in the 67th minute before Scott McTominay and Fellaini came on to provide solidity in the middle late on the game.

Pogba, who carried over his fine World Cup winning form into the first game and produced a complete performance as skipper, shook hands with the subs after being replaced for Fellaini, and though Martial extended his hand to his compatriot - his frustration at not coming on was clear.

United fans picked up on it and reacted on Twitter:

Mourinho had slagged Martial off in pre-season for going home to attend the birth of his daughter and failing to return, but he insists he wanted to get the former Monaco man on last night but simply didn't have enough subs.

"A good match. A match where I needed six changes not three," he told Sky Sports in his post-match interview.

"I want to play Martial but I can't, Paul Pogba can't play 90, Fred the same. I need more changes. Martial in the last 20 minutes could have given us the second goal but I couldn't make that change. The players gave everything, they gave what they had. Everybody did that."

Will Martial get a fair crack of the whip this season?
