If someone asked you to guess who the following heatmap belongs to, then you would likely hazard a guess that an attacking midfielder owns these recordings from the 2017/18 season.

If you based your guess around the Premier League, perhaps the likes of Manchester City's David Silva or Arsenal Mesut Ozil would spring to mind because of how much they like to drop deep and control play.

These players are the central hub of their team. They can do it all.

Just look at how David Silva has dictated play from every part of the final third under Pep Guardiola, this season.

That being said, how many players could score 32 goals from these positions and come out on top in terms of assists, dribbles and chances created?

Only Lionel Messi could do such a thing.

The five time Balon d'Or winner is challenging the likes of Mohamed Salah for goals scored this season, he is challenging the likes of Kevin de Bruyne for assists and he's on par with Neymar in terms of dribbles.

Not to mention chances created and all round influence.

Twitter account infosmessi provided the following heatmaps and stats:

To sum up his dominance, Messi became the first player in history to score 30+ goals in seven different La Liga seasons on Sunday night when he bagged another hat-trick against Deportivo.

Ernesto Valverde's side secured another La Liga title as they remain unbeaten in the league after 33 games, 12 points ahead of bitter rivals Real Madrid.

And surprise surprise, that man Messi has been the driving force behind another dominant league campaign.

Do you think he deserves the Balon d'Ot trophy this time around?
