Uber Eats is making a major splash in football after entering into a partnership with Ligue 1.

The online-based food service will be taking over from Conforama as the French league's official sponsor.

Now that means football fans will be feeling a little bit more hungry as they watch Neymar, Kylian Mbappé and Edinson Cavani tear it up with Paris Saint-Germain from next season.

But that sponsorship will also continue for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons for Uber Eats Ligue 1 -- the official name for France's top-tier domestic league.

And fans are quick to point out that French football loves food sponsorship deals, with Ligue 2 currently partnered with Domino's Pizza.

Fans have also found the funny side of the name change and shared their thoughts on Twitter.

Didier Quillot, the executive director of the Ligue de Football Professionnel, said: "This major agreement reflects the new dimension taken by Ligue 1.

"We are very proud to be able to count on Uber Eats support, a major global brand, to support the development of the French championship.

"From next season, Uber Eats will be present on visibility devices and will reserve some surprises in terms of activations.

"From 2020/2021, the title partnership agreement will seal a major alliance.

"After partnership agreements with major US sports franchises, we are very proud that Uber Eats has chosen Ligue 1 as the first European sport partnership with the aim of supporting its development.

"We are also particularly pleased to be able to associate Ligue 1 with a very strong brand among young consumers."
