Video Assistant Referee (VAR) was used for the very first time in Champions League history on Wednesday, and the controversial decision didn't go down well on social media.

Ajax scored against Real Madrid just before the break but the goal was overturned through VAR.

Nicolas Tagliafico appeared to have put his side in front after some questionable goalkeeping from Thibaut Courtois, who spilled Matthijs de Ligt's header.

However, his goal was swiftly chalked off. VAR ruled out the goal with Dusan Tadic being deemed offside.

A quick glance on Twitter suggest fans are furious with VAR.

Real Madrid eventually secured a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio who scored in the 87th minute.
