Preston's Declan Rudd Nutmegged From 35 Yards In Worst Goalkeeper Gaffe Of 2018

How's he managed this?!

Preston North End goalkeeper Declan Rudd will want to forget Saturday afternoon's defeat to Birmingham City in a hurry.

It all went down when Birmingham midfielder Maikel Kieftenbelg hit one of the worst shots we've seen this weekend, but seconds later, Rudd let the pathetic effort roll between his legs.

As you can see in the footage below, he bent down to collect the weak effort, but the ball seems to bounce awkwardly.

But surely you've got to save this, Declan?!

Rudd's goalkeeping gaffe will definitely be included on those 'Worst Football Bloopers Of All Time' DVD's for years to come, alongside Peter Enckelmen and Massimo Taibi.

Here's what happened in the Championship tie between Preston North End and BIrmingham City this weekend...

Rudd stood with his hands on his head in sheer disbelief at what just happened before his eyes. You've got to feel for the lad, but this will go down in history alongside Enckelmen and 'that' throw-in disaster against...Birmingham City.

The thing is, this was only the opening goal of the game. Rudd went on to concede another two goals in a disappointing 3-0 defeat for The Lilywhites.

Social media were sympathetic as always:

Preston manager Alex Neil backed the 27-year-old shot stopper, and said he won't make him the scapegoat for Saturday's loss.

"As a professional player you know when you've made an error, you've just got to let it go - there is nothing you can do about it now." he said after the game.

"Declan needs to put it to the back of his mind and move on. We are certainly not going to make a scapegoat of him, he has made a mistake and it has cost us the first goal.

"We can go and repair that by maybe getting the next goal which we didn't do."

Maybe he needs to give Bologna's incredible goalkeeper training a try. Check out the above clip^

We haven't seen a nutmeg from that sort of range since Massimo Taibi's gaffe against Southampton in 1999.
