Ascoli goalkeeper Filippo Perucchini might have snatched the prestigious 'own goal of the year award' when he dribbled the ball into his own net in a Serie B match against Palermo on Thursday night.

No you are not seeing things. This actually happened in an actual, professional game.

Perucchini, who was once a highly rated youngster at AC Milan, is the talk of social media, with some suggesting that match fixing was part of this outrageous fail.

All we know is, it's one of the worst own goals we've ever seen. The goalkeeper fell to his knees and understandably so.

He tried to perform a drag back of sorts in his own penalty area, but a heavy touch was his ultimate downfall. Have you ever seen anything like it?

As you can imagine, this moment of madness from Filippo Perucchini has gone viral.

Following this incredible own goal in the 26th minute, Palermo went on to win the match 3-0 thanks to goals from Ivaylo Chochev and Przemysław Szymiński, but this moment grabbed all the headlines.
