We wish him all the best.

Danny Welbeck just can't catch a break.

He deservedly received a call up to Gareth Southgate's England squad this afternoon but after what looks like a serious injury against Sporting CP tonight, it looks like he will be out for a long spell.

The 27-year-old attempted to get on the end of a cross from the right, but fell awkwardly on his ankle.

Welbeck had to be stretchered off with oxygen in the Europa League tie, as teammates looked on in horror.

The reaction from youngster Matteo Guendouzi just says it all. We wish him all the best in his recovery.

It looks almost certain that Welbeck will miss the upcoming international friendly.

The Three Lions will take on the USA in a friendly match next Thursday, which will see the return of former England captain and all-time record scorer Wayne Rooney.

Following on from the U.S. game, which will be the DC United star's only appearance, England will face off against Croatia in their final group match of the UEFA Nations League.

Again, we wish Danny all the best in his recovery. It looked a nasty one.
