It's official, Steven Gerrard is the new Rangers managers. And, naturally, it was brought up in Brendan Rodgers' press conference who reacted to the managerial appointment.

After taking a role as Liverpool's under-18 coach, Gerrard has now taken his first plunge into management by being named as Rangers boss.

He's penned a four-year deal at Ibrox and will begin his role from next season.

The Old Firm derby is already a narrative-filled game yet the 2018/19 fixtures will be even spicier with Gerrard set to go head-to-head with Rodgers, who managed him during his Liverpool reign.

And ahead of the meeting, Rodgers has issued Gerrard a warning: "Welcome to the land of no sleep!"

Rodgers has yet to speak to Gerrard since being chosen as Rangers manager, but he's delighted for him.

"I haven't spoken to him, I left him be when I saw he was linked with it, he will obviously have his own thoughts on it," he said via Daily Record.

Rodgers added: "So I have let him be. But I am delighted for him because he has obviously had an incredible playing career, wanted to manage, wanted to coach and now he gets the opportunity to do that.

"I am sure he will be looking forward to his first job and like I say, I am happy that he now enters into my world of coaching and managing.

"Obviously it's his first job. He will have an idea in relation in how he wants to work. But as a guy he was ultra-professional, (he had) incredible qualities as a footballer.

"That level of professionalism all his career made him a great player so I am sure he will take all those attributes into management.

"But only over time will you see the identity of his teams, how he wants to work and play."
