Last night's Merseyside derby was as one sided as it could have been, even before Everton were down to 10 men. In fact the one impact of note any Everton player had on the game was the impact Ramiro Funes Mori made with Divock Origi in a horror challenge.
The Belgian striker will be lucky to come away from the incident last night without serious injury and a chance to go to the Euros this summer. He's gone for a scan this afternoon and one expects ligament damage that keeps him out until the beginning of next season.
One thing that potentially wound people up more than the challenge was the defender's actions when walking off, he grabbed the Everton badge on his shirt and kissed it whilst showing no remorse for the challenge. Fortunately the Argentine has now come out and apologised to the 21 year old:
The horrible challenge correctly resulted in a straight red card for Funes Mori who will now miss the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United on the weekend and the immediate impact on his side was to see Everton go from 2-0 down to 4-0 down by full time.
Advert
Because of injuries and the sending off Roberto Martinez' side finished the match with central midfielders James McCarthy and Muhamed Besic at centre back.
We wish Divock all the best and a speedy recovery and we're glad to see the defender apologise.
