It would be a welcomed boost for United...

Paris Saint-Germain have been hit with a huge blow ahead of their Champions League round of 16 clash with Manchester United.

Marco Verratti limped off in serious discomfort in the 9-0 thrashing of Guingamp on Saturday at the Parc des Princes, having suffered a nasty-looking injury to his ankle just 19 minutes into the game.

PSG went on to score a further nine in an utterly ruthless display in the French capital but the injury to Verratti, a pivotal player for the Parisiens, will be of great concern to Thomas Tuchel.

The German boss revealed the former Pescara midfielder's situation didn't look great and he was sent to hospital for further tests.

Verratti is the man who keeps PSG ticking over in the middle of the park but he is actually the only recognised central midfielder available for selection at the moment.

Lassana Diarra's retirement from the game is said to be imminent, while Adrien Rabiot has been banished to the stands because of his ongoing contract dispute with the club.

Draxler occupied a deeper role in the mauling of Guingamp, turning out alongside Dani Alves, who has been playing as a makeshift midfielder of late.

But while it worked a treat against Ligue One's worst team, the game against United in three weeks' time is a different kettle of fish.

Irrespective of Verratti's lay-off, it would make perfect sense for PSG to go after a new midfielder in the January window.
