Paris Saint-Germain will take "appropriate" action against Neymar after he failed to turn up for the club's pre-season training on Monday.

The Brazilian superstar, 27, has become unsettled in the French capital and wants a stunning return to Barcelona.

But PSG are furious that Neymar has not shown up for pre-season training, even if his future at the club remains uncertain.

"This Monday, July 8, Neymar da Silva Santos Junior was summoned for the resumption of activities of the professional group of Paris Saint-Germain," reads the club's statement.

"Paris Saint-Germain found that the player Neymar Jr did not show up at the agreed time and place, without having been authorised by the club in advance.

"Paris Saint-Germain deplores this situation and will take the appropriate measures resulting from it."

The ex-Barcelona ace missed out on the Copa América due to injury, but he returned to Brazil to watch his side lift the trophy after beating Peru 3-1 at the Maracanã.

Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu said that Neymar wanted to quit the French champions, but he admitted that it would be very difficult to re-sign him.

"We know that he wants to leave Paris Saint Germain, but we know that they don't want him to leave, so there is no case," the 56-year-old Spaniard said.

PSG new boy Ander Herrera, who signed on a free transfer, believes that both Neymar and Kylian Mbappé will remain at the club for the new season.

"Yes, I believe [they will stay]," the ex-Manchester United midfielder told Marca.

"I just arrived, and when I get to a new place I tend to talk as little as possible and listen a lot. I want to soak up everything that happens.

"Firstly, I'm going to think about working and improving day by day, respecting my colleagues who have important careers and hopefully I can play with them."

Will Neymar stay at PSG?
