Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly made their first offer to Manchester United for David de Gea.

That's according to Canal+'s Geoffroy Garétier, who said that the Ligue 1 champions are in desperate need to add a world-class 'keeper to their ranks.

"Paris Saint-Germain are seeking a world-class goalkeeper now more than ever," he said.

"The club have made an offer for David de Gea."

PSG head coach Thomas Tuchel is well aware that he needs to drastically improve his squad in order to challenge for the Champions League title next season, following an unsuccessful run in Europe's top-tier club competition in this campaign.

Gianluigi Buffon has been played regularly between the sticks after his move from Juventus last summer, but the 41-year-old legendary Italian shot-stopper isn't getting any younger.

In fact, Tuchel told the press recently that he would not be rotating between Buffon and Alphonse Areola next season.

"We can't go on like this, we're the first club in the history of football to do it, it's not possible," he said.

The French side could also look at Kevin Trapp as a possibility to assume the number one spot after a successful loan spell at Eintracht Frankfurt, but it would seem that the PSG uppers are keen to bring in de Gea to strengthen their position in the Champions League.

The 28-year-old United shot-stopper has had a dip in form this season, and with the Red Devils set to miss out on Champions League football in the following campaign, it could tempt him to move to the French capital instead.

Of course, the Premier League side want to keep hold of the Spanish international, whose contract is set to expire in 2020, and are still in talks over a new deal.

De Gea, who is reportedly holding out for a contract that puts him alongside the other top earners at the club, might find himself having a fast reunion with Ander Herrera at PSG.

The 29-year-old United midfielder has confirmed that he will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season and PSG are the favourites to snap him up on a free transfer.
