Paul Pogba played an integral part in France's World Cup-winning exploits in Russia over the summer.

Les Bleus boss Didier Deschamps had his faith rewarded in the Manchester United midfielder after he put on a stellar performance in the final against Croatia.

The 25-year-old Frenchman was able to pick up his 11th major honour in the summer, but it might have been a more special moment for other reasons.

Pogba dedicated the win to his late father, Fassou Antoine, who passed away at the age of 79 in May.

The former Juventus star wore shin pads that featured a picture of his father, as well as a touching message written in French.

"Oh Lord, don't chastise me for what they say, forgive me for what they don't know and make me better then what they think of me," reads the translation.

Speaking to Téléfoot (via Get French Football News), the United ace spoke about the importance of lifting the World Cup in memory of his father.

"I was thinking a lot about my father," he said. "When I was younger, we watched the 1998 final together.

"He died. I thought of him, I was bringing the cup back for him, even if he is no longer there. I looked up to the sky and brought him the cup."

Pogba, who has been in fine form under Red Devils caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær, has shown how much of an impact the international tournament has had on his career, especially with the team-talk he delivered against Huddersfield Town.
