Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Hits Back Over Criticism Of Goal Celebration

Borussia Dortmund striker wasn't impressed with the criticism.

Everyone loves a goal celebration, so much so that it's pretty much the basis of everyone's argument why we shouldn't have video referees. Today Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was criticised for his celebration.

When Antoine Griezmann scored what he thought was a goal during the week against Spain only to see it ruled out those against video technology thought it was a dreadful moment.

Those of us with any sense knew that plenty of times players have started celebrating only to see a linesman's flag raised denying them the goal and this was nothing different.

But really there's nothing like a properly well executed celebration, think Gazza vs Scotland in Euro 96 and the dentist's chair- yes I'm old but it's still the best.

However some people didn't appreciate Aubameyang whipping out a mask to celebrate a goal in the derby against Schalke earlier today.

Some people branded the Gabon striker arrogant but the former AC Milan player hit back on Instagram later on:

It's not the first time that the striker has donned a mask in celebration of scoring either. In the past Aubameyang has transformed into Spiderman after scoring.

My Spidey sense is tingling that this is just good humoured fun. Image: PA Images.

Sure you've got to have pre planned wearing a mask and then pretty much assumed you were going to score but when you're that good you probably assume that anyway

Plus is a mask really any more arrogant than wearing a t-shirt with a message under your kit? I wouldn't say so!

The striker's goal today was his 24th in the Bundesliga and he's only played 24 times, not bad. It wasn't enough for his team as Dortmund and Schalke drew 1-1.
