Pepe isn't exactly the most likeable bloke after all his antics on the pitch but to his credit, the Portugal defender was responsible for a brilliant gesture at Besiktas prior to his contract being terminated by mutual consent.

Yesterday, bEIN Sports reported the news, while a Turkish outlet claimed his teammates and managers have said goodbye after he emptied his locker in the Nevzat training facility.

Journalist Murat Özen also provided confirmation, saying: "Pepe left Besiktas!"

The former Real Madrid and Porto defender's imminent departure came about very suddenly but it's emerged that Pepe has left the club following Besiktas' financial difficulties - which has seen them struggle to pay many of their top earners.

Pepe has been of those to not receive his full salary and he has now left to help free up funds. But it's emerged, via MARCA, that the 35-year old had helped pay the wages of chefs and gardeners prior to him moving on for the good of the club.

Say what you want about Pepe but what he's done here, in using his own money to pay employees, is a class act and shows that maybe he's not just a big shithouse of a footballer.

Pepe played a total of 52 games for Besiktas and still had six months to run on his contract before it was decided he would leave prematurely.

He is now free to sign for another club and will surely not be short of offers despite his age.
