Pele has reacted to Kaka announcing his retirement from football by sending him a classy message on Twitter.

The 35-year-old Brazilian called time on his glittering career which included spells with some of the biggest clubs in the world. From AC Milan to Real Madrid.

He won domestic league titles in both Spain and Italy, as well as the Champions League with AC Milan. Not to mention winning the World Cup in 2002. He's also the last player to hold aloft the prestigious Ballon d'Or not named Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Kaka played out his final few seasons as a professional footballer in the States with Orlando City, featuring in his final game in October for the American outfit.

He posted the following message on social media to declare his retirement: "Father, It was much more than I could ever imagined. Thank you! I'm now ready for the next journey. In Jesus name. Amem."

Naturally, the footballing community has been mourning his retirement with fellow compatriot Pele responding to his call.

"I will miss seeing you with a ball at your feet - you were a magician. Good luck for the next step of your journey, my friend," he wrote.

Beautiful message, Pele. Beautiful.

He wasn't the only one to pay tribute.

You'll be missed, Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite.
