Panama Boss Reveals The Brilliant Words He Told Gareth Southgate At Half-Time

He's a big fan of England...

Panama manager Hernán Darío Gómez appeared to be telling Gareth Southgate to go easy on his team in the second half of the 6-1 defeat, but he's come out and revealed what he said to his opposite number.

John Stones, 'the Barnsley Beckenbauer', scored two from set plays, Jesse Lingard notched a wonderful strike and Harry Kane bagged two emphatic penalties to put the Three Lions 5-0 up at half-time in what was easily England's best half of football in a World Cup game.

Gomez, the Panama gaffer, would have undoubtedly been fearing the worst and the cameras captured him trotting over to Southgate for a little chat in the dugout just before the second half got under way.

Going off the mannerisms and open palm hand gesture, plenty reckon he was telling the England boss to take it easy and get his team to rest on five goals.

However, speaking in his post-match presser, the 62-year old said he simply congratulated Southgate for a pretty incredible first half showing, while telling him how much he enjoys his team.

Plenty will point out that it's only Panama but it's nice to hear such complimentary words from Gomez.

England are top of the group on the basis of fair play, having had one less yellow card than their next opponents Belgium, who they will come up against in the final Group G clash on Thursday.
