Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Martin O'Neill and replaced him with Sabri Lamouchi just 18 minutes later.

The Championship club have dismissed O'Neill after just five months in charge at the City Ground and swiftly replaced him with the 47-year-old Rennes boss.

The ex-Aston Villa manager was appointed in January to replace Aitor Karanka and steered his side to ninth place in the Championship last season.

Reports claim Forest were forced to cut short O'Neill's reign following alleged mutiny from the squad over his training methods.

The club posted a short statement regarding O'Neill at 1.21pm: "Nottingham Forest can confirm that manager Martin O'Neill has left the club.

"The club would like to thank Martin for all his efforts during his time at The City Ground and wish him well for the future."

Forest have wasted no time in replacing him by bringing in Frenchman Lamouchi, announcing the move at 1.39pm.

"Nottingham Forest are delighted to announce that Sabri Lamouchi has been appointed as the club's new head coach," read a club statement.

"Lamouchi was most recently in charge of Rennes in the French top flight, taking them from the relegation places to qualify for the Europa League in 2017-18.

"He also led the Ivory Coast to the 2014 World Cup as the top-ranked side in Africa and the quarter-finals of the 2013 African Cup of Nations, and won the Qatari Cup and reached the Asian Champions League semi-finals during his time at El Jaish SC.

"Lamouchi also had a distinguished playing career, making over 470 appearances for clubs such as Monaco, Parma, Inter Milan and Olympique Marseille as well as appearing 12 times for the French national team.

"The Frenchman will be assisted at Forest by six new members of staff who will support the first team."
