The difference for Chelsea this season...

Exactly a year ago today, the Premier League looked very different.

On 17th December 2015, Jose Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea for a second time, with the Blues underachieving massively.

Following defeat at the hands of Leicester at the King Power Stadium on 14 December, Chelsea were in 16th place and Mourinho got the boot.

The win saw the Foxes return to the top of the Premier League and they would of course end the season as champions.

And a year on, the two sides have near-enough swapped positions - with Chelsea now nine points clear at the top of the table, while Leicester are lurched in 15th place - only ahead of 16th placed Burnley on goal difference.

Of course, many factors have come into play. Chelsea have not had European football this season, which has helped them stay fresh and focused for the league fixtures - on the other hand Leicester have been excellent in the Champions League (that Porto drubbing aside) yet haven't been able to rediscover their title-winning form.

Antonio Conte's excellent tactics and man management style are certainly contributing to Chelsea's fine form.

But if we're being honest, the main character in this story is N'Golo Kante.

He moved from Leicester to Chelsea for £32 million and has been the difference so far; he is the glue keeping this Chelsea side together and his absence has meant Leicester have lost their balance completely.

Kante is that good, Chelsea and Leicester have pretty much swapped positions because of him.

What a player.
