Neymar and Lionel Messi are no longer teammates but the Argentine needs his former club colleague to do him a massive favour.

Argentina's World Cup appearance remains in huge doubt following their goalless draw against Peru, last Friday. The solitary point meant they dropped out of the qualifying spots, as they plummeted to sixth place.

Jorge Sampaoli's charges have endured a miserable campaign despite boasting a bunch of star players. And their participation in Russia next summer hinges on their game against Ecuador.

A draw could see them clinch a play-off spot, while a victory would likely secure qualification. However, a victory may only muster up a fifth place finish which would result in a game against the Oceania representative.

But their efforts will be aided if Brazil can beat Chile. The five-time World Cup winners have already guaranteed a spot in Russia, though they still have an important role in who progresses along with them.

And ahead of the final round of South America qualifying games, Neymar has promised to help his friend, Messi.

Spanish outlet SPORT write: "That is why Neymar has recognized that he wants to win Chile not only 'to offer a good image before our fans,' but also to help his friend Leo Messi."

Neymar, who's produced heroics for Brazil scoring six goals en route to qualification, is determined to beat Chile so Argentina head to Russia with them.

We're hoping Brazil come be the support of La Albiceleste, because, let's face it, a World Cup without Messi wouldn't be the same.

The three matches which dictate who goes through are; Brazil vs. Chile, Peru vs. Colombia and Ecuador vs. Argentina.

Who's heading to Russia with Brazil? Not long to find out.
