So, just a small gathering for Mexico before they head to the World Cup...

According to local reports, the Mexico World Cup squad are facing a media backlash following claims of players partying with prostitutes.

Like all nations competing at the World Cup, Mexico are gearing up their venture to Russia with a few friendly internationals including playing against Scotland.

Juan Carlos Osorio's side beat their Scottish counterparts over the weekend thanks to a 13th minute strike from Giovani dos Santos.

However, Mexico's 1-0 victory didn't grab the headlines.

A few hours removed from beating Scotland, it's reported that several Mexico players partied with around 30 escorts. THIRTY.

Mexican outlet El Notas claim players enjoyed an all-day bender.

They ran a story titled: "'Thirty VIP escorts gave the TRI [Mexico football team] their real World Cup send-off with a 24-hour lock-in.'"

The magazine suggests a party took place at a luxurious mansion in Las Lomas de Chapultepec, Mexico City.

While apparently lasting for 24 hours (!!).

Mexican Football Federation Secretary General Guillermo Cantu has since responded to the outrageous reports:

"These are the risks freedom has and we're not going to change that," he said.

"A day off is a day off. They're the risks you have with freedom. It's not whether we like it or not. We're just got to be clear that it's a day off and they haven't missed training or a team get-together.

'"The issue of values is a separate matter. I'm not going to condemn the players. The issue of freedom is a complex one of course but it's a personal, free decision as to how they spend their free time."

All eyes will be on Mexico when they open their campaign against defending World Champions Germany on June 17th.
