Mesut Ozil Set A New Premier League Record Against Sunderland

The German play maker was extremely busy, last night

Alexis Sanchez may have again stolen the headlines, last night, after scoring a brace to down already relegated Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium, but it was Mesut Ozil who was setting Premier League records.

Arsenal's German play maker has taken a fair amount of criticism during the second half of this season, following a series of lackluster displays.

However, with the FA Cup final on the horizon, Ozil seems to have rediscovered the form he usually reserves for the first half of the season.

And last night, the former Real Madrid man set a new Premier League record with a performance Gunners fans will be keen to see him replicate against Chelsea at Wembley, next Saturday.

Not only did Arsenal have 36 attempts on goal against Sunderland, the most efforts they've had in a Premier League match in 14 years, but Ozil also created the most goal scoring opportunities in a single game since Opta records began.

Ozil laid on 12 chances for his Gunners teammates against the Black Cats, although Arsenal proved to be wasteful against the Premier League's bottom club.

Victory over David Moyes' men last night keeps Arsenal in contention for another top four finish, although it remains unlikely that Arsene Wenger's men will break into the Champions League places, with Liverpool and Manchester City both more likely to remain in the top four.
