Lionel Messi might have been denied the chance to score the opener against Liverpool thanks to a superb tackle from Andy Robertson, but the Barcelona captain finally added his name to the scoresheet in the second half.

Luis Suárez, who opened the scoring in the first half, had his shot rattle off the bar before it landed into the path of the Barcelona captain, who slotted it into the back of the net.

Messi once again returned to inflict the killing blow on Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League clash at the Camp Nou after scoring an incredible free-kick.

Of course, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner climbed the rankings for how many times he has scored against England's top six.

Since the 2011-12 season, Messi has now scored 26 times against the top six sides in the Premier League.

To put that into perspective, Manchester City's Sergio Agüero is at the top with 43, with Leicester City's Jamie Vardy second with 31.

In third place is none other than the Argentina captain, who has moved level with Chelsea's Eden Hazard.

Unbelievable. Take a bow, Messi!

(Note: the Bet365 tweet below was done prior to Messi's second, hence the reason why he's on 25.)

Ernesto Valverde's men secured a 3-0 win over Liverpool, giving them a massive advantage ahead of their second-leg clash at Anfield next week.

Will Liverpool be able to make a comeback at Anfield in the second leg?

Let us know in the comments.
