Manchester City have a new number nine for the 2019/20 season, with the club confirming Gabriel Jesus has changed shirt numbers.

The Brazilian took on the No.33 when he signed for City in January 2017 as the No.9 was occupied by Spanish winger Nolito.

But with the 32-year old departing for Sevilla a few months later, Jesus will now wear the same iconic shirt number for club and country as of next term.

"It will be an honour to wear the City number nine shirt and I'll do so with great pride," Jesus reflected on his shirt number change, speaking to the official Manchester City website.

"I hope to score many goals wearing this jersey and help City to more trophies in the coming seasons. It's the number I wear with Brazil and as always, I'll be giving everything for City when I'm wearing it."

Previous players to have worn the No.9 shirt at City include Alvaro Negredo, Emmanuel Adebayor, Valeri Bojinov, Emile Mpenza, Andy Cole, Paulo Wanchope and Paul Dickov.

But while his squad number is changing, Jesus' goal celebration will remain the same, The former Palmeiras striker always produces a telephone 'Alo Mae' gesture whenever he finds the net - referencing the close relationship he has with his mother.

Jesus has scored 45 goals in 100 appearances for City so far and will be hoping to add that tally with the No.9 on his back.
